Our first model for today’s Shelter Sunday was Phoebe, an adoptable Treeing Hound mix. She’s sweet and can be, and is a regular in Sunday playgroups.
She isn’t too rough or too dainty, and she is 100% goof. I adore her!
Who wouldn’t love to go adopt Phoebe?
But as cute as she is, we didn’t spend ALL afternoon with her. Another playgroup regular wanted some extra attention, too!
Pumpernickel is a Catahoula Leopard Hound mix. She’s a little more rowdy than Phoebe, and would benefit from a someone who will exercise her.
Sure, she LOOKS lazy, but this girl is a bundle of energy. She loves to run, chase, tackle, fetch, and of course to sit in her pool.
She does know “sit” and I’m sure she’d be happy to learn any other tasks for a special family. I would say because she can be rough, she may not be best for families with small children, but she’s a great dog nonetheless. Finally, today we managed to get a few shots of a slightly more dainty girl. Meet Sheba:
Sheba is believed to be a Shiba Inu mix. And she does have those IRRESISTIBLE ears like I’d expect a Shiba to sport. And I simply cannot get enough of them.
She also gets along well with dogs, though today she had to miss playgroup because she was recently spayed.
No worries, I think she still got to have some fun.
If you think you’re interested in any of the dogs at the shelter, go see them now! They are still open and currently for dogs, adoption fees are waived!
Great news! Last week’s featured dog, Finn, as well as Darlene from our Facebook cover photo were both adopted this week!
Today, three more lovely dogs got to play model for this week’s Shelter Sunday. I always love doing the photography part of the blog. I roll around on the ground, soak my clothes in what I hope is mud, and get sticky with dog slobber, among other liquids. Today’s adoptables were especially fun, both because they were all so good looking and because they wanted to PLAY PLAY PLAY!
Starsky is one hunky Husky mix. He is a rough and tumble kind of guy, and would do very well in an active home. He loves to play and run and I have no doubts the working dog in him just needs a job or hobby. If you’re looking for a 24/7 couch potato, he may not be the best fit, but if you’re more of an outdoorsy person, he’s ready to meet you!
And just so we are 100% clear, there was no touching up done in the above photo. NONE. HIS EYES REALLY ARE THAT STUNNING!
Starsky participates in the shelter playgroups, and loves fetch and kiddie pools to splash around in.
Our second dog of the day has one very obvious thing in common with Starsky: those beautiful blue eyes. Meet Phteven!
Phteven is also a playgroup regular at the shelter. Unsurprisingly, he too enjoys a good dip in the kiddie pool and chasing tennis balls.
About half of the photo session was spent trotting in circles around Mike & me trying to give us as many kisses as possible!
After editing and watermarking a bunch of photos, I checked online to see Odette’s age. Since she is not listed on the website (and she is obviously an amazing little puppy!) I think she may have been adopted this afternoon! However, just in case it was a system error or she was transferred to a foster home, I’ll share the photos of her as well.
Look at those wrinkles! Sweet Miss Odette is just a puppy, too!
She’s a little shy but responds well to treats and praise. In no time, she warms right up and loves you like she’s always known you.
Thanks for reading, and please don’t forget to share to help these dogs find their forever families!
Hey all! Yesterday our playgroups lasted a little longer than normal at the shelter, which threw off my schedule more that it should have. Unfortunately, we barely got the dogs inside before the rain (and thunder and lightning) began, so I didn’t get any ‘fancy pictures’ on my nice camera. So, please join me in pretending that my cell phone does half as well as my camera.
Bubba, an adoptable 4 year old American Staffordshire mix showed me he loved to sit for treats. Just not while posing for the camera!
Unfortunately, this also means I only got photos of a few dogs – the last dogs in the play groups. But even if they were in the calmer play group, that doesn’t mean they didn’t have fun!
Again, please forgive the aiming. I was keeping an eye on the dogs while wildly hitting the camera button hoping I wasn’t taking an intense photo shoot of the very lovely red dirt.
I know, once upon a time I used to do “Find a Friend Friday”. However, seeing as I spend my Sundays volunteering at the shelter, it makes more sense for me to switch my days on the blog. That way my posts are as up to date as possible!
This morning, I spent another 3 hours with the dogs at the Tallahassee Leon Community Animal Services Center. (The Tallahassee Animal Shelter, for those who don’t know.) The runs are COMPLETELY full. There is no shortage of great dogs, or even dogs that fit my taste. Among my personal favorites are:
Tucker, a well trained and polite Boxer/Cattle Dog mix.
Ben, a sweet older hound dog with much more energy than you’d expect a senior to have.
Loki, a Treeing Cur mix with a fantastic name, who does great in play groups.
Beau, a “Lab/Akita” mix who looks more like a Border/Lab, which of course means I’m crazy about him. He is 6 months old, soft, and is entertained by little things, such as chasing flies.
But there are so many more! A couple of little dogs, a couple of fluffier dogs, puppies, seniors, ladies, and gentlemen – there is a dog for anyone in need.
Mabeline, a sweet 4 year old Cur/Pit mix, couldn’t wait for her picture to be taken! I met her in playgroup, so we know she does well with friendly dogs and people.
Tucker, my black and white heartthrob. He is so polite and sweet, and has a distorted little heart on his side. 😉
Loki is 2 years old and had a blast running in circles in play group today. He is stunning and so sweet!
Beau is a 6 month old typical puppy. Playful, soft, loving, and a little bit ADD. He actually reminds me a lot of Lana, and though he’s listed as a Lab/Akita, I think I see some Border Collie in that handsome mug.
I will have these photos and more uploaded to the Facebook page, and you’ll likely see a few pop up on my Pinterest and Instagram accounts, as well. I’d love to see these babies (and all the others in the shelter) find homes, so please feel free to share this page and/or my Courtesy Posts album on Facebook. Thanks for reading (and rescuing)!
I have a goal this weekend to get a great picture of Sunny. So, much to his dismay, he gets to spend his days being followed by his own personal paparazzi (puparazzi?). He isn’t the most willing model (he’d much rather be cuddling or playing), but he occasionally forgets to make himself blurry and takes a pretty handsome picture. Then it’s just up to me to not ruin it!
Admittedly, a couple of these images are not my best work. They are really more of a reminder to use an actual camera and not a smart phone. But, it felt like cheating to post just one image, so we have a few that show his personality and a few that show his rugged good looks!

So yes, I have a photo-dodging dog. He’s like an adorable little big foot. But he cleans up nicely! Please feel free to share him if you think you know someone who might want to adopt him!
Sunny has come a long way since he joined our little pack. Just a couple of small issues to fix and he’ll be ready for his forever home! Unfortunately, terrible lighting in my new apartment means I don’t have very many good pictures of my handsome boy, but I assure you, a photo shoot is on the to-do list.
Adoptable Golden mix, Sunny, is ready for a forever home! Through Aussie And Me Animal Rescue.
Sundance has learned a few ‘tricks’ while he’s been here. More importantly, he has learned how to be a good indoor dog. Thankfully, he came to us potty trained. Now he noses his leash when he needs to go outside, walks very nicely on leash, and knows bed time means going into his crate (which also means a treat!).
Sunny knows his crate is where he can go to rest and stay warm in these “harsh” Florida winters.
Sunny, like Lana, now sits for his food without having to be asked. He comes when called and is learning to shake ‘hands’. I am also happy to report that he lets me brush his teeth!
Sunny is a joy to foster. Easily one of my easiest fosters to date.
Sunny is mild mannered, super sweet, and between his love of food and love of his people, he is incredibly easy to train. Though I’ve never owned a Golden Retriever before, his attitude is exactly as I imagined their trademark easy-going demeanor. He would make an excellent companion for a first time owner or a low energy household. Just give him some toys and he’ll entertain himself!
Sunny is tired of waiting for his forever home! Won’t you share him so he can find his family?
So he’s pretty much perfect, right? Basically! All he needs before he can be adopted is to be neutered (already scheduled for this Tuesday) and to be de-wormed again. Easy enough!
When he isn’t playing or begging to be petted, he is usually found napping.
So maybe you’re thinking “I should adopt this dog“. Yes! Go for it! Just fill out an adoption application on the Aussie and Me website and tell them Sundance sounds like a long lost member of your family! Or, maybe you’re thinking “Geez, what a cool dog! I can’t adopt a dog right now, but I sure wish I could temporarily have a dog like this one”. Oh boy, do I have good news for you! Sunny’s former housemate, Joe, needs a new place to go! He’s currently in a wonderful foster home, but he needs something a little… different. Both Sunny and Joe were beat up on by other dogs in their old home. Sunny and Lana get along well, but Joe is afraid of his large foster sibling. He needs a foster home with a calm, smaller dog or no dog at all. I’ve never met him, but am told he also acts like your typical Golden.
Joe must find a new foster home where he can feel safe and loved. Please share to help him find a new foster home!
Isn’t he gorgeous?! If you’re interested in helping this handsome boy blossom into his true self, please contact me or send a message to Aussie and Me either via e-mail or Facebook. He is currently in Jacksonville but I imagine he could travel a little for a good home.
