Me, Lana, and our first foster, Link

Hi! I’m Kayla. I’m an animal shelter worker, Florida State University Alum, and wannabe writer currently trying to make my debut into the adult world. I am also an animal lover, caffeine addict, slightly nerdy fangirl, and hopeless dreamer. The apple of my eye and the motivation behind this blog is the sweet dog I adopted when I was 19 years old (see the black and white dog on the right). She was four months old at the time. Basically, the two of us have “grown up” together (though neither of us is done growing up). I was raised with dogs, but never before had I had more than the average dog owning experience. Since college, however, I have earned my title as a foster parent, halfway house, and mom to an admittedly difficult dog.

About The Girl Who Blogs And The Dogs Who Inspired Her | Dream Big, Bark LoudlyLana has generously shared my attention, love, and our home to dogs in need. One day soon I hope to have my own rescue. While the goal is in sight, I still have a few steps left. For now, we learn from and love each other, and we try to help one dog at a time!

In addition to fostering and rescuing dogs, it is my goal to help educate other pet owners and rescuers. While I am by no means a professional, I have my own set of unique circumstances I am thrilled to share with others. (Including owning an incontinent and reactive dog, managing a multiple dog household, raising a dog on a frugal, I-don’t-have-a-career-yet budget, years of experience in the pet care industry as well as in dog rescue, and a degree in psychology – originally meant to use for animal behavior studies.)
I am a passionate advocate of spay and neuter. I also believe that training is necessary for peaceful cohabitation. I understand not every family can keep their dog it’s entire life, but I try to provide reasonable advice and alternative ideas for surrendering your dog to the shelter. I love rescue but I will not shame patrons of truly responsible breeders. There are few pet parenting decisions I will shame, because I believe we are all learning as we go, and that what works for me and my dog might not work for you. My hope is that this blog might just be the way someone finds the dog of their dreams, and my dogs find the home of their dreams. If you ever have any topics you’d like for me to blog about, please just ask!

  1. I love this blog idea! My partner & I are planning on getting a rescue pup in the next year (we need to find a dog-friendly apartment first), but reading your posts has made me want to speed up the process.

    • Thank you! I know the feeling of having to wait, it’s tough! But it will be so worth it. =) I’d love to see pictures/hear an update when you do eventually get your puppy.

    • Thank you, and I’m glad to hear you’re interested in following! To be honest, it has been a while so I’m not 100% sure how to follow through WordPress. You can always follow us on Facebook, on Bloglovin, or by email. Any of those options would let you keep up with all of our posts.
